What is a technology card?
Technological documentation is a collection of documents registering the process of formation of the produced product. During it, the entire technological manual is prepared, ie: a list of workshop aids (handles, tools for machining and assembly), time standard card, material norm card, drawings of starting materials and semi-finished products (salads), special help drawings, and also a technological card .
Each product needs an appropriate description containing the maximum necessary information. The technological card is prepared for a specific product and is a description of the operations carried out, completed with work stations for each of them. It also contains information about workshop aids, preparatory and end time, unit time and total time of performing operations for a specific series. The conditions of unit and small-lot production make the technological card in this case replace other documents, becoming a complete documentation, provided that a wide range of information is included in it. It can be said that it characterizes the technological process with the determination of the order of operations performed, type of materials, standards of material consumption, time standards of operations, and grade.
Due to its important function, the technological data sheet specifies: name and designation of a part, assembly or product, type of material used in the production process (assembly units, pig-iron, semi-finished products, etc.), list of all operations belonging to the process in the order in which they are made designation of workstations, time limits for operations and grade of operations, information on other documents related to the described technological process, (eg numbers of instruction cards). As part of the technological documentation, operations are distinguished by the next number (eg every 10). The advantage of such numbering is that without changing the numbering a new technological operation can be applied. Then its number is from the pool of unused numbers and can be chronologically located in a specific order.
Types of technology cards and their use
The scope of technological documentation is the more extensive, the greater is the production itself. Therefore, it is not without significance whether we need to register stages of unit, small-lot, mass or mass production. Along with the size of production, the content of documents also gains in detail. Simplified technological cards are used in unit production, while in technological and mass production, technological documentation with technological cards and instruction cards is more appropriate. The technology card is prepared for a specific item, describing the subsequent operations and adding a job description for each of them. It also mentions – in detail – special aids and gives the preparatory and completion time, unit time and time of operation for a given series size.
In the case of unit and small lot production, the technology card will most often be a complete technological documentation and therefore the individual operations should be described in more detail, including universal and special assistance. Due to this, the technological card should be supplemented with a workshop drawing. After filling in the upper rows of the technological card with information boxes, pay more attention to the vertical columns. In the first of them, the operation number must be given, as well as the symbols using single, Friday or decimal numbering systems. The second column saves the department and the position for the operation. The registration of such data is very important, because the technological process takes place as a whole, regardless of the branch in which the subsequent stages of product development are performed (only semi-finished products are created in a separate process). The workstation is usually marked with the use of contractual marks, although numeric markings may also be used.
In large-scale and mass production, each of the operations performed will be detailed in the so-called processing instructions, so only the operations are exchanged in the technology card and their content is brief. In the “instrumentation” field it is enough to give the number of the machining instructions, in which everything will be characterized in detail.
The technology card has the following fields to fill in:
- name and designation of a part, assembly or product;
- the characteristics of the material, pig iron or semi-finished product, or assemblies assembled;
- a list of all operations belonging to the process in the order of their execution with the designation of workstations;
- timing of operations and job grade;
- information about other documents related to the described technological process, eg the numbers of instruction cards.
